"What We Believe"
The Church of God movement holds the firm conviction that the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God. In this context we accept all that is central and enduring in the faith of historic, orthodox Christianity as these essentials often have been stated in widely accepted faith affirmations.
The Bible is the sole basis of our belief. The Bible is without error and is the final authority. There is one triune God – whom exists in three persons – The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God created all. He created humankind to be in relationship with Him. Due to individual, willful sin, a separation came between God and humans. In this separation from Him all hope and life was lost. Salvation from this separation comes only through God’s grace by receiving His Son, Jesus. Each person must repent from their sin and accept by faith their forgiveness and salvation.
Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, was sent by the Father. He was born by a virgin birth, lived a sinless life on earth and died on the cross for our sins. He was victorious over that death, resurrected from the dead and now stands as our mediator between us and God. Jesus will return to rule over this earth at the Father’s appointed time and way. At the end, all will experience bodily resurrection and judgment. Those in Christ will have eternal life with God.
When Jesus returned to heaven, His Holy Spirit was sent. The Holy Spirit draws sinners to Christ, equips believers for the ministries of the church and indwells each believer in their own walk from the moment of salvation.
The church, God’s people, is to glorify and serve God. God’s church is a holy community of the redeemed. God calls His people, the church, into mission. All Christians are mandated to give witness to God’s saving activity in Jesus Christ and to ‘make disciples of all nations.’
God’s church is intended to be a unified community. All believers are part of the Kingdom of Christ – the church universal. The Church of God believes this unity within the Universal Church is not based in the achievement of full agreement on all theological questions. Rather, it is based on a common membership in the church through the grace of God and anchored by a common commitment to the centrality of Christ and the authority of the Bible.
